SCAM ALERT!

Okay, I don’t know you from Adam’s off ox, but I’m gonna call you anyway. I got your number online somewhere. First thing I say when I hear your answer is, “Can you hear me?”

Now, the common or typical response to such a question is most likely, “Yes.” But I didn’t tell you I was running a recorder when I made the call, and now I have a recording of your voice saying “yes.” O, how I can use that recording!!

This SCAM has been hitting me here in Idaho frequently over the past month or more. Finally a friend cued me to the possible scam attached, and I now tell the callers in no uncertain and very loud words that I cannot hear them, and direct them exactly where I’d like them to go, with a suggestion as to how they might spend their time thrown in for good measure. And hang up. Be sure to check this out online. Apparently it’s an ongoing SCAM across the country.

Is it necessary to deny the caller with lots of curses? YES!! A couple days ago I got a call telling me that in exactly one week I was going to get delivery of some “BAD BREAD.” The person telling me this had a heavy foreign accent. I asked him to repeat that and he said the same thing, adding I’d also get some “KNEAD BREAD.” I think he was asking my permission to send the stuff here. I never did decipher what the jabbering was. Befuddled by this jerk’s accent and mispronouncements, I spent a minute or two asking him to spell it out….

Turns out he was trying to say “BACK BRACE,” not bad bread. The other mumble was “KNEE BRACE.” I guess I was supposed to say YES (see above note) and then would be charged for the USELESS items when they arrived.

I wonder how much “bad bread” costs, and what I could do with it. Feed the birds? Stuff the garbage can?
